Cloud sponge
The Cloud sponge is found anywhere from Alaska to Mexico. They were present even before dinosaurs and little is known about them since they are in the deep depths of the ocean. They grow about 2 inches per year in nutrient filled waters. The cloud sponge filters sea water to eat and get rid of waste products. They use silica to form glass-like spicules to form the support structure of the sponge. They are part of the Class Hexactinellida. These sponges do not have a muscular system.
